What Does It Take to Become a Licensed Lash Technician?

In our opinion, being a licensed lash technician is one of the best jobs in the world. But, how do you become one?

If you’re ready to work hard, set your own hours, and help other people to look and feel their best, keep reading to find out how you could become a lash artist.

Why Become a Lash Tech?

Being a licensed lash technician is a glamorous and unique job. Some of the biggest benefits of becoming a lash tech are:

  • Setting your own schedule - As a lash tech, you can work as much or as little as you want, whatever floats your boat! If you’ve got a busy schedule that just doesn’t jive well with a 9-5 job, becoming a lash artist may be for you.
  • Helping others - Lash extensions can make a world of difference. As a lash tech, you’ll help to give others confidence and make them feel beautiful, making this a very meaningful career.
  • Making money - As lash techs, our services are time-consuming and tedious, but also financially rewarding. If you’re ready to start making good money for the beautiful work you do, consider becoming a lash artist.

Complete Your State’s Requirements

Each state has different requirements to become a licensed lash tech. In states like Alabama and Maryland, you only need to take a lash certification course; however, in states like Utah and Wyoming, you need to take the certification course on top of becoming a licensed cosmetologist or barber.

What Is Lash Tech Certification Like?

Once you decide you want to be a lash tech, you’ll need to take a certification course. Certification takes between 1-3 days to complete and costs between $300-$2,000 depending on your program. This fee typically includes some sort of starter lash extension kit as well, hence the big price difference between courses. During that time, you’ll learn everything you need to know, including the various lash types, their applications, lash removal, and workspace sanitization procedures. When looking for a lash tech certification program, you want to make sure you find one taught by an accredited instructor or school rather than a random lash artist; this ensures that whoever you’re learning from has the proper experience and credentials.

Never Stop Learning

Even after you’ve finished your required training, it’s important to never stop learning about the latest lash trends and techniques. That’s why we offer training in classic, volume, and mega-volume lashes so that you’ll be proficient in any style your client desires.
